I was inspired to create Suspension as a news junkie who enjoys TLDR and Morning Brew, newsletters that made it more convenient to keep up to date. It was easier to get the updates without the chore of RSS unreads, though I still enjoy a good feed session to see what’s happening. Even with RSS, there’s still Reddit and many newsletters (we’re adding another!), so RSS alone didn’t necessarily get all the news. That combined with the work on Car Curious, where I was publishing recaps of what car podcasts were saying and seeing a lot of news come through.

I gather sources from across the internet: RSS, Reddit, newsletters, YouTube, news sites, company filings, and I’m always hunting for more. Years ago I worked on software that grouped similar stories and URLs together, and I was able to revive that idea with modern tools and build a new version (but better?). Every morning it pulls in a few thousand items from more than 500 sources and remembers what I’ve already run. AI writes a first draft from that. I wake up and review the stories and draft, and fix what’s wrong.

None of the reporting is mine. Every story names the outlet and links to the original. If something’s worth more than five minutes, go read it there.
