THE REVEAL
BMW unveiled the fifth-generation X5 at its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant today, the first X5 generation offered with five drivetrain options: gas, diesel, mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and full electric, per the BMW Group USA pressroom.
The gas-only X5 40 xDrive goes on sale this October at $73,550; the iX5 60 xDrive follows in early 2027 at $81,250, per Kelley Blue Book.
The iX5 carries a 144 kWh battery, 570 hp, and a U.S.-estimated 435-mile range; a 483 hp 50e PHEV and a V8-powered M Performance variant follow later, per the BMW pressroom.
BMW completed a $1.7 billion U.S. investment alongside the reveal, confirming the iX5 will be the first fully electric BMW assembled in America, per the BMW pressroom.
Door handles are gone, replaced by what Carscoops calls "little metal wings"; interior gains optional real slate trim and Neue Klasse design language.
The iX5's $81,250 base puts it $7,700 above the entry gas X5, a narrower EV premium than most rivals manage. BMW has now assembled more than 3.1 million X5s in Spartanburg since 1999, per bmwblog.com, and the iX5 is the clearest signal yet that tariff exposure is a live pricing concern for Munich.
