In today's issue:

  • Acura confirms an eight-seat flagship above the MDX and an off-road SUV, with a hybrid RDX to follow

  • Volvo's EX60 is building about a tenth of its target, and U.S. dealers may wait until late 2027

  • BMW's third-quarter deliveries fall 6.3% as its China deliveries drop 24.8%

Filtered from 4,531 items published across 322 sources in the last 24 hours.

BIGGER AND MUDDIER

  • Acura told U.S. dealers on Oct. 13 that it will add an "adventure-ready" SUV in the first part of 2028 and its largest SUV ever, an eight-passenger model above the seven-seat MDX, per Motor1 and CBT News. Motor1 says both enter segments where Acura does not compete today, and a fourth-generation RDX hybrid follows in 2028 as the first Acura with Honda's two-motor hybrid system.

  • Following up on Honda's plan for its biggest SUVs yet, the eight-seater is the model Automotive News has called the Acura XL. Acura gave no date, but Automotive News says production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2029 at up to 40,000 a year, probably at a $2.5 billion Ohio plant that Acura's statement did not confirm.

  • The off-roader will share a platform with the Honda Passport and be about its size, according to AutoForecast Solutions cited by Automotive News. Acura showed only a teaser photo of a wheel with an all-terrain tire, per Motor1.

  • The segment it is chasing is growing: U.S. sales of large premium crossovers rose for a third straight year to a record 194,910 in 2025, 51% above 2020 and led by the Lexus TX, per Automotive News Research & Data Center.

  • The lineup is small today. Acura went from six nameplates to three in recent years, paused RDX production in April and dropped the TLX and ZDX last year, per Automotive News.

Acura's sales are up 4.4% this year on those three models, led by an MDX up more than 25%, per CBT News, so dealers have momentum and little new to sell with it: the first new Acura is more than a year away and the flagship about three. RDX production stays paused until the hybrid arrives in 2028.

Volvo's EX60 Is Building About a Tenth of Its Target, and U.S. Dealers May Wait Until Late 2027: Following up on Volvo scrapping its 2026 outlook, Automotive News reports the EX60, built in Torslanda, Sweden since late April, is running at about a tenth of its roughly 2,000-a-week target, per a person with knowledge of the situation. That source says Volvo is putting Europe first, leaving no more U.S. allocations this year and no significant volume until the second half of 2027, while a Volvo spokesperson says "a significant number" of already allocated cars should reach U.S. retailers early next year. Dealers had expected about 7,000 EX60s in the U.S. this year, and Volvo's late-September dealer memo said the delays are "not related to vehicle quality, safety, or product performance." The problems are fitting the battery pack into the body and building the electric motors, on Volvo's first model with megacasting and cell-to-body construction. #analyst

BMW's Deliveries Fall 6.3% as China Drops 24.8%: BMW Group delivered 551,072 vehicles in the third quarter, with China-region deliveries down 24.8% to 114,355, per Just Auto. Europe rose 2.7% to 235,628 and the U.S. rose 2.5% to 106,741, and electric deliveries rose 7.2% to 110,257, with Europe's up 37.5%. GM's China sales fell 24% in the same quarter, a fourth straight quarterly decline, per Automotive News, though GM's own release called the quarter "solid." BMW CEO Milan Nedeljković, in China for the first time since taking office, said BMW targets local production of more than 95% of the cars it sells there by 2030, per ChinaEVHome, citing Beijing Business Today. #market

Ford Killed the F-150 Lightning, and Used Ones Now Sell in 20 Days: Used Lightnings take about 20 days on average to sell, less than half the 44-day average for used vehicles in the U.S., and go for about 50% to 60% of their original sticker price, per a Bloomberg report relayed by Autoblog. Edmunds puts the average transaction price for a used Lightning at $50,000, up 4% since the start of the year, and Autoblog says used Lightnings now cost about what used gas-powered F-150s do. Nearly a third are sold by dealerships that carry other brands, which would normally wholesale a trade-in Ford to a Ford dealer and are now listing the trucks themselves. Ford discontinued the Lightning last December, three months after the federal EV tax credit ended, and Autoblog says surging gas prices are a major reason buyers are turning to the used truck. #market

Rivian's R2 Stops Shorter and Corners Harder on Its All-Terrain Tires Than on Its Street Tires: Car and Driver tested a 656-hp R2 Performance on the $1,000 optional 20-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and measured 0.84 g on the skidpad against 0.81 g on the standard 21-inch Pirelli street tires, per Car and Driver. It stopped from 70 mph in 166 feet and from 100 mph in 320 feet, 12 and 43 feet shorter, and reached 60 mph in 3.4 seconds against 3.5. Motor Trend also found the all-terrains outperformed the all-seasons in some measures. Car and Driver says Rivian's tires are not stock BFGoodrich rubber: they carry a 149-mph V rating where every other size is rated T or H, and they have less tread depth and an M+S rating instead of the snowflake mark. The cost is range, 260 miles on the 21s and 220 on the all-terrains in its 75-mph test, against EPA ratings of 330 and 307 miles. #enthusiast

It relies on drive-by-wire and Scout AI's Gx Ground Agent software, and functional trials are aimed for 2027. GM Defense's Colorado ZR2-based Infantry Squad Vehicle started as a 649-vehicle requirement that has grown to nearly 12,000, per the same report.

Chevy Raised Blazer EV Prices $300 After Selling Only 1,261 in the Third Quarter: The 2027 Blazer EV LT now starts at $45,000, up $300, or $46,795 with destination, per Autoblog and Electrek. Autoblog says Blazer EV sales fell 84.4% in the quarter, to 1,261, and Electrek, citing Kelley Blue Book, counts 4,427 through the third quarter, down 78% from 20,825 a year earlier. Last year's third quarter was inflated by the rush to buy before the $7,500 federal credit expired.

One in Four New-Car Loans Now Runs 84 Months or Longer, a Record: Loans of 84 months or more made up 25.5% of financed new-vehicle purchases in the third quarter, up from 21.8% a year earlier, per Edmunds data reported by Repairer Driven News. The average payment was $787 and 21.2% of financed buyers paid $1,000 or more a month, both records, with the average rate steady at 7%.

Ford Has Issued 75 Recalls This Year After a Record 153 in 2025: Ford's 75 recalls in 2026 are more than any other automaker's, and its 153 in 2025 nearly doubled General Motors' 2014 record of 77, per Autoblog. Hearn data for 2021 to 2025 puts Ford's average at 174 days to fix a recall, shorter than Stellantis's 225 and Nissan's 299, though Nissan has issued only 13 recalls this year. Some fixes take far longer: a recall of nearly half a million Explorers for detaching door trim, announced in June 2025, has no remedy expected until November 2026, a 514-day wait. About 27% of Ford's 2025 recalls covered vehicles already recalled with a failed fix, and Ford says the Hearn figure is misleading because it leaves out recalls resolved within 60 days. NHTSA fined Ford $165 million in November 2024 for handling recalls too slowly.

The gas Charger Sixpack uses the 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six that was meant to replace the V8 Charger, which ended production in 2023. Automotive News describes sales of the 670-hp electric Charger Daytona as sluggish; Dodge has sold fewer than 800 Charger Daytonas this year.
