Lucid Air cockpit with the Air UX 3.0 interface

In today's issue:

  • Lucid charges $950 to bring its new software to older Airs, and Lexus Japan already sells 40 hp for $1,400

  • Red Bull's Ford-backed engine wins its first race, after a software bug stalled the grid

  • BMW's gas 3 Series starts $11,600 under the i3 and tops €100,000 in Germany

OPTION PACKAGE

  • Lucid announced Air UX 3.0 on Sept. 29, a software update (version 2.11.0) with an interface inspired by the Gravity SUV's, per Lucid. It arrives over the air on 2025 and newer Airs.

  • Model year 2022, 2023 and some 2024 Airs need an infotainment processor upgrade first. Lucid prices it at $950 in the U.S., including installation and excluding taxes, per Lucid. Which 2024 cars need it depends on when Lucid changed the processor during production, per Car and Driver.

  • Lexus Japan has sold an upgrade since Dec. 24, 2025 that lifts the RZ 500e "version L" AWD from 250 kW to 280 kW (about 40 hp) and adds a virtual eight-speed manual mode with paddle shifters. It costs 220,000 yen with labor, per Lexus Upgrade Factory, and Top Speed converts that to about $1,400.

  • Lexus's new TZ makes the same move in the U.S. The 2027 TZ 450e ships with 308 hp, down from the 402 hp Lexus first quoted, per Car and Driver. Lexus lists a dealer-installed Performance Upgrade that restores 402 hp and a 5.2-second 0-60 on Luxury trims, arriving in 2027, per Lexus, and InsideEVs reports Lexus confirmed it as a dealer add-on. Lexus.com lists no price for it. YouTuber Kirk Kreifels, who says he used to sell Lexus, argues the 402 hp is already in the car and was software-limited for the U.S., per his video.

  • The simulated gears are not new to the model. The U.S. 2026 RZ 550e F Sport launched with a virtual eight-speed "M Mode" and paddle shifters, per Lexus.

Lucid's $950 buys the hardware its new software needs, and Lexus Japan's $1,400 buys power and simulated gears for a car the owner already has. In the U.S., Lexus will sell the TZ's missing power through dealers.
