In today's issue:

  • Jaguar's production Type 01 arrives with 1,016 hp, no rear window and a bet that America buys it

  • Porsche keeps the 718 electric, brings back a gas Macan, and aims to lift its top cars' prices about 20%

  • The EU preps an import quota on Chinese hybrids

NO REARVIEW REQUIRED

  • Jaguar revealed the production Type 01, a four-seat electric grand tourer, in New York on Oct. 6, per Hagerty Media; Hagerty adds that the production car came first and the Type 00 concept was developed from it.

  • Three motors make 1,016 hp and 1,007 lb-ft, Jaguar's most powerful road car ever, with 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds, per Motor1.

  • A 118 kWh battery gives an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, and 350 kW charging adds 200 miles in as little as 13 minutes, per Automotive News Europe.

  • Orders open in early 2027 with prices starting at £130,000, with first deliveries expected in the second half of the year, per Jaguar's release. The release gives only the U.K. price; Automotive News Europe puts it at $172,000.

  • There is no rear window, just a solid, glassless tailgate, per Hagerty Media.

  • CEO Rawdon Glover told Automotive News Europe he expects the U.S. to be the Type 01's biggest market, and says powertrain ranks only eighth among purchase considerations in Jaguar's research, per Automotive News Europe.

That is a bet made in a shrinking market: U.S. EV sales fell 24% in the first half of 2026, per Automotive News Europe citing Cox, and Glover himself figures about 20% of buyers at this price will reject anything without a combustion engine, per Automotive News Europe.
